What: We are delighted to announce the opening of our new book club! Led by our expert literature tutor, Mr. Ryan Lenox, students will be immersed in classic American novels, learn new active reading techniques, improve their essay writing skills, refine their grammar, and expand their vocabulary. Students will dive deep into one book per month, and will be given light weekly assignments in the form of worksheets and short writing prompts to guide their reading and understanding of the text. Quizzes will be given periodically to help keep students on track and chart their progress.
Why: This club is designed to give students a boost in key skills they will carry with them to every academic setting. The goal is not to add more coursework to their load, but rather to give them the tools and skills to make their existing course load all the more doable. This is also a special opportunity for students to engage with a small group of peers academically outside of the typical school setting, as they will be encouraged to discuss the readings openly, and in a scholarly manner.
When: Meetings are held twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There will be two groups, A and B, separated by difficulty of material. Sessions are 12 weeks long and offered 4 times a year seasonally. Winter sessions run January - March, Spring sessions run April - June, Summer sessions run July - September, and Fall sessions run October - December.
Where: Held in our Huntington tutoring center at 1789A East Jericho Turnpike, Huntington, New York 11743.
Who: Intended for grades 8th, 9th, and 10th. Students who are looking to improve their reading and writing abilities, expand their vocabularies, or simply are passionate about literature are welcome to come read with us!
